Mallorca is located southeast of the coast of Spain, right in the center of the archipelago. It boasts a unique and favorable climate with prolonged rainfall in the fall and sunny weather for the rest of the year, with moderately hot summers and mild warm winters.
A considerable part of Mallorca is occupied by mountains: in the center rise the Levante and Tramuntana massifs, with the fertile Es Pla valley spread between them. The island has over forty nature reserves. These include preserved groves and pine forests, mountain ranges and whimsical caves, sandy dunes and marshlands – bird sanctuaries. The island’s coastline is indented with bays and inlets; along the shoreline stretch spacious beaches. The Mediterranean waters surrounding Mallorca are clean and clear.

Beaches of Mallorca
Let’s consider the main beaches and resorts on the island of Mallorca. There are so many, it’s hard to choose. I’ll try to tell you about all the pros and cons of the specific beaches.
The swimming season in Mallorca opens in May and ends only in October. There are more than two hundred beaches. Here are some of them:
Palma de Mallorca
Palma has many remarkable places that hold the history of generations. The most striking object is considered to be the Cathedral—a Gothic masterpiece, the main temple of all Balearic Islands. The La Lonja building, recognized as a model of Mediterranean civil Gothic, was once the center of maritime trade.
Stroll along Palma’s wonderful promenade with a wide pedestrian area, walk along the picturesque Passeig des Born boulevard; appreciate the wealth of the Es Baluard museum collection.
Around Palma de Mallorca
West of the capital begins a string of resorts—green areas, beaches. In the mountains here stands the La Granja Mallorca mansion—a residence with a beautiful garden and museum. 17 km from the city is the Galatzó Nature Reserve Park—an adventure nature park with thirty waterfalls. Ten minutes by car from Palma is Puerto Portals—an elite yacht club. The magnificent “Alabaster Fortress”—the cultural center of the island Fundacio Pilar y Joan Miro—is built on the territory of the Cala Major resort.
Northwest of the island
The Tramuntana range continuously attracts tourists: the most accessible mountain routes run along the northwest of the island. In the heart of the mountains, in a picturesque location, is the Port de Sóller resort. You can reach it by the Palma–Sóller train, and then on an old tram. It is worth visiting Valldemossa to see the historic town and the old Carthusian monastery.
The western part of Mallorca is adorned with the Alfabia Gardens, a wonder of Moorish garden art. The beautiful Sa Calobra Bay is famous for the dizzying serpentine road leading to it. Near the bay is the spiritual center of the Balearic Islands—the medieval Monastery of Lluc.
Northeast of Mallorca
In the northeast stand idyllic ancient towns: Alcudia, Artà, Petra, Pollensa. This area is home to many places renowned for their natural beauty—stunning Cape Formentor, the Artà Caves, Bahia D’Alcudia Beach. You can observe exotic birds in the Boquer Valley or in the unique S’Albufera reserve.
In the south
The south of Mallorca is full of beautiful valleys, farmland, historical ruins, and quiet towns. The Es Pla plain is famous for its caves; three ancient monasteries have been preserved on the summit of Puig de Randa. Artificial pearl production factories are located along the road connecting the capital and Manacor. 10 km from the southern coast lies the Cabrera Island Reserve—you can reach it by tourist boat.

Excursions in Mallorca
Tourists visit historical sites, architectural monuments, and famous caves; they are attracted by the pearl factories and the La Granja residence. It is easy to reach the Tramuntana mountains, Formentor, and Valldemossa. To travel through the mountain tunnels on the old Palma–Sóller train, you can simply buy a ticket at the station.
Most excursions around Mallorca can be done independently, but you can also use the services of a travel agency.
How to get to Mallorca
Get to Mallorca from Ibiza, Menorca, and Valencia by ferry; there are also direct flights to Palma. From Barcelona, besides the ferry, cruise liners visit Mallorca, and flights take no more than an hour. From Russia, there are charter flights during the high season, while at other times, travel is via Barcelona or Madrid.
