Abama Beach

In the western part of Tenerife Island, nestled among rocky shores, lies a small, luxurious little cove. Here, you'll find light, fine sand and clear azure waters.

The elite Playa de Abama beach

The small and cozy Playa de Abama beach is located near the town of Playa San Juan. The water is crystal clear, the bottom is smooth, and the sand is light and fine. The green flag is almost always flying at the beach. The bay is sheltered from the wind by black volcanic cliffs on three sides, and an artificial reef provides reliable protection from strong waves.

Playa de Abama is removed from civilization. It was created specifically for the nearby luxurious The Ritz-Carlton Abama Golf & Spa 5* hotel, but it remains municipal and is open to all visitors. Even during the peak season, the beach is uncrowded.

Check out The Ritz-Carlton Abama 5* hotel for your dates on the HotelLook or Booking page.

If you prefer to stay in apartments, then take a look at Las Terrazas de Abama (page on HotelLook or Booking).

Abama beach is popular with tourists and locals, so it’s no surprise that it can get crowded on weekends and holidays.

For beach guests, there is: free parking, a toilet, an outdoor shower, and a cafe from the Abama 5* hotel. You can rent umbrellas and sun loungers or simply sunbathe on a towel.

Parking and descent to Abama beach

For beach visitors, there is free parking in front of the Abama hotel. Park your car there and head towards the ocean along the hotel. After 500 m, you’ll see the upper station of the funicular, but it’s only for hotel guests. For us, the only way is to descend the stairs to the right of the funicular. The return journey can be challenging for some. But there is another way – drive through the hotel, go down to the beach, drop off your family there, and then return to the parking lot.

How to get to Playa de Abama by bus?

Buses 473 and 477 stop near the Abama hotel. The stop is called Abama. The trip from Los Cristianos will take 40 minutes, and the one-way fare is €3.25. If you’re coming from Los Gigantes, the journey will take 15 minutes and cost €1.5.

It’s a 900 m walk from the bus stop to the beach. You already know the way.
