Beniho Beach

The most sensual beach on the island is Playa de Benijo. Time your visit during low tide, otherwise you won't see the beach. It's a nudist and free-spirited people's beach. Feel at one with nature. Make sure to visit a few hours before sunset as the sun disappears behind the mountains earlier. Your photos will be mind-blowing!

Benijo Beach

Playa de Benijo (Benijo Beach) is a wild, undeveloped beach, half a kilometer long, covered with fine gravel and black sand. It is located in a protected natural area. The width of the coastal strip is 30 meters.

The coastline is surrounded by whimsical rocky peaks, which the locals aptly named “crocodile teeth.” People come here specifically to admire the unique landscapes, capture in photographs the dark rocks and the clearest blue water, boiling with white foam near the shore.

When planning to visit Benijo Beach, it’s worth paying attention to the tide schedule. Due to its gentle slope, the beach practically disappears under water during high tide.

Despite the gentle slope, swimming at Benijo is dangerous. There are strong winds and currents, high powerful waves, and frequent storms. Many people come here to escape the tourist crowds and simply lie on the sand, enjoying the sound of the waves, the splashes of water, and the beautiful surroundings. The beauty of this northern beach could not be overlooked by naturists, and sometimes there are many of them here.

It’s worth noting that at noon, when the sun is particularly intense, there is practically no shade on the beach. However, Playa de Benijo is an excellent spot for windsurfers – every athlete can “catch” a wave.

On weekends in the summer, beachgoers gather here, while on weekdays, it’s usually deserted. Near the beach, in the village of Benijo, there is a family restaurant with excellent fish dishes. A long, winding staircase leads down from the small village restaurant to Benijo Beach.

How to get to Benijo Beach?

You can reach the picturesque Playa de Benijo by the only road with a rather steep serpentine, crossing the Anaga mountain range. The road is very beautiful, passing through heather thickets and dark laurel forests, and impresses with its stern and unusual beauty.

By bus, you can only get to Benijo Beach from Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Route #946 goes there; check the schedule on titsa.com. The journey takes about an hour, and you need to get off at the Benijos stop. From there, you’ll have to walk about two more kilometers uphill.

Parking and where to eat

If you can’t find a parking spot, go have lunch at the El Frontón restaurant. Park your car in their parking lot.

Order a cup of coffee or a big plate of grilled fish. Enjoy the wonderful view of the coastline. Then head to the beach.
