Let’s start with air travel to other islands. Tenerife has two airports — south and north. Most inter-island flights depart from the northern airport. Two Canarian airlines operate these routes: Binter and CanaryFly. You can reach any island in 30-40 minutes. It’s more cost-effective to buy tickets a month and a half in advance or earlier. For some reason, tickets on the Binter website are often more expensive than on aviasales, and even cheaper on the Spanish version. When purchasing, look for non-resident prices.
You can also find affordable flights to the UK, Agadir, and Marrakech. Occasionally, there are direct flights to Funchal in Madeira.
The second convenient but expensive option is ferries (I wrote about where to buy tickets in this article). We have two ferry companies — Fred Olsen and Armas. Prices are roughly the same. I sometimes choose ferries because you can take your car and a lot of luggage in the trunk.
From the southern port of Los Cristianos, ferries depart to La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro. From the north, Santa Cruz, ferries depart to Gran Canaria + Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, but with layovers. Tickets are expensive; it’s usually cheaper to fly.
