Benijo Beach / Playa de Benijo
Benijo (Playa de Benijo) is one of the most picturesque and secluded beaches in Tenerife. It is located in the north, in the fishing village of Benijo, near the town of Taganana. The road to the village winds along a serpentine with beautiful views. To reach the beach, you’ll need to descend a long, narrow, and steep staircase that starts near the El Mirador restaurant.
Benijo is covered with black volcanic sand, fine near the rocks and coarser near the water. There are usually large waves here, and you need to be an adrenaline junkie to swim. As it’s a wild beach, you won’t find lifeguards, sunbeds, or umbrellas here. There are few tourists; locals usually relax here, and you might encounter nudists. At the top, there’s a wonderful restaurant called El Frontón, which serves fresh fish.
Las Teresitas Beach / Playa de Las Teresitas

Las Teresitas Beach (Playa de Las Teresitas) is one of the best beaches in Tenerife, suitable for families with children. It’s located northeast of the village of San Andrés, not far from the capital Santa Cruz. It stretches for 1.5 km and is 70 m wide. Entry is free, and there’s free parking nearby. The golden light sand for Las Teresitas was imported from the Sahara. A breakwater protects it from large waves. The beach has all the amenities — there’s a medical center, equipment rental, toilets, showers, restaurants, and cafes. It’s always crowded, especially on weekends. A magnificent palm alley runs along the shore.
La Tejita Beach / Playa de La Tejita
La Tejita (Playa de La Tejita) is the largest natural sandy beach on the island. It’s located in the south of Tenerife near the airport. The water entry is gradual. The beach is 1.5 km long and 100-300 m wide. Montaña Roja (Red Mountain) protects it from the east wind. The coastal area is covered with golden-gray sand. The beach is not crowded. Closer to the mountain, nudists sunbathe. There are two areas equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent, and several parking lots. Constant trade winds and frequent large waves create good conditions for surfing, bodyboarding, windsurfing, or kitesurfing.
Del Duque Beach / Playa del Duque
Playa del Duque (Playa del Duque) is a premium-class beach on the Costa Adeje coast with soft golden sand, warm crystal-clear azure water, and gentle sunshine. It has been awarded the Blue Flag for cleanliness, high standards, and amenities. The beach owes its name to a castle built on the ocean shore by the Duke of Abrantes (el duque means «duke» in Spanish).
The length of del Duque beach is 390 m, and its width is 60 m, with free entry. It’s always crowded here. The place is suitable for family vacations with children, as the bottom is free of stones, the shore is gentle, and large waves are rare due to breakwaters. Playa del Duque is fully equipped, has free Wi-Fi and several free parking lots. A lifeguard service ensures the safety of beachgoers. You can grab a bite at one of the numerous coastal restaurants and cafes.
Jardín Beach / Playa Jardín
Jardín Beach (Playa Jardín) is located in the resort of Puerto de la Cruz, next to Loro Park. The name translates as «garden beach». It was created according to the project of the famous Canarian architect and artist César Manrique. Along the beach, there’s a picturesque garden with endemic plants, waterfalls, and stone caves.
Jardín Beach is divided by rocks into three sections:
- Playa del Castillo San Felipe,
- Playa Chica
- Playa Grande.
The place is quite quiet and peaceful. Jardín has been awarded the Blue Flag. The sand here is black, and the water is clean and quite cold, with almost always big waves, so many visitors just sunbathe. The beach has all the necessary infrastructure.
Camisón Beach / Playa del Camisón
Camisón Beach (Playa del Camisón) is located in the resort of Playa de las Américas. It is surrounded by breakwaters on two sides, so there are no strong waves here. The length of Playa del Camisón is 375 m, width — 25 m. Well-maintained territory, soft light sand, and a gentle convenient entrance to the water make it attractive to vacationers. Palm trees grow along the beach, and behind them runs a promenade, so you can walk to neighboring beaches at a leisurely pace. Umbrellas are installed on Camisón Beach, and you can rent a catamaran, jet ski, or ride a banana boat. Surfing instructors will teach everyone willing to stand on a board and conquer the waves.
Abama Beach
Playa Abama (Playa de Abama) is located in the west of Tenerife. Its length is 110 m, width — 20 m. It appeared thanks to the luxurious The Ritz-Carlton Abama Golf & Spa 5* hotel. The rocky shore was covered with sand brought from the Sahara.
Rocks jutting out into the ocean and artificial breakwaters protect the small bay from storms and strong winds, turning it into a lagoon with crystal clear turquoise water. The beach almost always has a green flag.
Entry is open to all, but formally the area belongs to the Abama Hotel. Services are mainly oriented towards hotel guests, so rental of sunbeds, umbrellas, etc. (except for showers and toilets) is only available to them. To get to Abama Beach, you need to leave your car in the parking lot about 1 km away and walk through the hotel grounds. Playa Abama is suitable for family vacations.
La Arena Beach / Playa de la Arena
La Arena Beach (Playa de la Arena) is located in a natural bay and is considered the best on the west coast of Tenerife. It is situated in the resort town of Playa de la Arena, located south of the popular resort Los Gigantes (Los Gigantes). The beach is small, covered with black volcanic sand that gets very hot, so it’s best not to walk barefoot on it. There are also pebbles and large stones. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent. For its excellent environmental conditions, cleanliness, and amenities, La Arena Beach has been receiving the prestigious European Blue Flag award for many years.
