From the viewpoint, you can observe layers of different volcanic deposits. You can see how layer after layer the volcano covered the earth. Each layer is unique and has a different color.
The white layer consists of pumice, which is very light and porous. The black layer consists of basalt. The red layers are made of basaltic scoria, which has been oxidized by groundwater.
