Metro and public transport of Valencia

Valencia Metro is one of the fastest and easiest ways to get around the city. In summer, the metro is comfortable because the trains have air conditioning.

Valencia’s public transport includes: metro, buses, trams, and commuter trains. The metro and trams are combined into the Metrovalencia network: there are five metro lines – 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7, and four tram lines — 4, 6, 8 and 10. Buses are operated by EMT Valencia.

Fare zones

As of 2026, Valencia public transport operates on a 6-zone system. Zone 1 covers the city center, and the numbering scales outward — the farther from the center, the higher the zone number, up to Zone 6 for the outermost suburbs. Your ticket price is determined by how many zones you cross during a single journey, so check the valencia metro zones map before you travel.

Beyond Zone 6, there is also Zone D, which applies to the farthest destinations served by the network. Line 1, for example, extends into Zone D to reach Castelló — roughly 45 minutes from the city center. Understanding the full range of valencia transport zones matters most if you plan to travel to those outer areas, since a cross-zone ticket costs noticeably more than a single-zone ride.

Tickets

You can use separate tickets for bus and metro. Check the fares on the official websites of Metrovalencia and EMT.

Billete sencillo

A billete sencillo is a single-journey ticket valid for 90 minutes from the moment of validation. Prices scale by zone: Zone 1 costs €1.50, Zone 2 — €2.00, Zone 3 — €2.80, Zone 4 — €3.50, Zone 5 — €4.30, and all 6 zones — €5.20. When buying valencia metro tickets, the zone count depends on how many fare boundaries your journey crosses.

For regular travel across Valencia’s network, the SUMA 10 ticket covers all valencia public transport tickets in one card — valid on Metrovalencia, EMT buses, MetroBus, and Cercanías Renfe.

SUMA 10 gives you 10 trips at a fixed price depending on the zones you travel through. Zone 1 costs €8.90 for 10 trips. Prices scale up progressively, reaching €34.30 for a ticket covering all zones.

A separate 24-hour unlimited travel pass is available for €4 within Zone 1 — practical if you plan multiple journeys in a single day.

Discounts and special offers

Until June 30, 2025, there’s a 50% discount on all multi-trip public transport tickets in Valencia. Also, young people under 31 can use public transport for free. To do this, you need to obtain a personalized Móbilis 30 card.

Where to buy tickets

  • at ticket machines in metro stations;
  • at ticket offices in stations (not available at all stations);
  • in tobacco shops and newsstands.

As of 2025, ticket machines accept contactless bank cards for single fares — but machines frequently reject non-EU cards, and lines can build up fast during rush hours. Plan accordingly. For contactless payments on the new validators, the Móbilis app is mandatory; without it, the validator will not register your journey. Old magnetic tickets are still in circulation but will be phased out entirely by the end of 2026.

Failing to validate your ticket — regardless of the fare type or metro zones valencia you are travelling across — carries fines exceeding €100. Always tap in before boarding.

For frequent travel across all metro zones in Valencia, including the airport route, consider the Valencia Tourist Card for 24, 48, or 72 hours. It covers unlimited journeys on public transport and removes the need to deal with validators or app payments each time.

Airport ticket

The Aeroport (Manises) station is served by metro lines L3 and L5 — but it sits in Zone 5, outside the city-centre fare boundary. This is where Valencia public transport zones catch many visitors off guard: a standard city-only ticket is not valid here, and inspectors do issue on-the-spot fines of €100 or more.

The correct option is an all-zones single ticket, which covers the full journey. The T4 train from the city centre costs €4.90 one-way and is included in all-zones passes — check which pass you hold before boarding, not after.

More details on getting to the airport are in this guide.

Public transport operating hours

Metro lines run from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM on weekdays. On Fridays, Saturdays, and the eve of public holidays, service extends until 1:30 AM. Across all valencia metro zones, standard fares apply during most hours — though from 2026, app-only dynamic pricing trials will add a 20% surcharge during Friday and Saturday evening peak hours. EMT buses operate from around 6:00 AM to 10:30 PM, after which night routes take over, running until 2:00 AM on weekdays and 3:30 AM on weekends.
