Medusa Festival in Cullera – how to plan

Recently, I attended the Medusa Festival, an annual music event held on the beach in the city of Cullera, about 50 kilometers from Valencia. This festival is for fans of club music, offering a wide range of genres from House, Techno, and EDM to Hardstyle and Hardcore.

How to get to Medusa Festival

Despite its popularity, tickets to the Medusa Festival can be purchased up until the last day. My friend and I attended three out of the four days, flying directly from Tenerife to Valencia. It’s easy to get to Cullera: there’s a C1 train from Valencia railway station every half hour, and buses run from Cullera station to the festival.

Ticket Purchase

We bought the tickets through the website for entry (€107) and camping (€72). The festival uses a wristband with an NFC tag that serves as a pass and e-wallet. On our first entry, our ticket codes were scanned, documents checked (a residence card or Russian passport will do), and we received the wristband.

Camping Area

Camping is a huge field with sunshades. You set up your own tent and have fun. There are communal (but open, so don’t forget your swimsuit!) showers, toilets with proper cubicles, and urinals. You can grab a bite in the camping area cheaper than at the fest itself – there’s a food zone with kebabs, paella, and pasta. The beach is not far.

What to take to the camping area:

  • A spacious tent for two from Decathlon
  • Two foam mats (also from Decathlon)
  • Two light sleeping bags
  • A flashlight for the tent
  • Two chairs (really handy!)
  • Power banks! (you can rent them there for a fee)

It was so warm outside at night that you could just bring an inflatable mattress and sleep under the open sky.

How the Medusa Festival area is set up

Фляга для воды
Water bottle

At the entrance, you get thoroughly searched – no food, drinks, or water. I bought a soft 800 ml water bottle for €1 in the pet section – it looks like a mayonnaise package and is convenient to carry in your shorts pockets. You can refill water for free inside.

At the entrance, there’s a huge food court with different food trucks from well-known restaurants. They even had Burger King and Papa John’s. Prices range from 10 to 15 euros per dish. I had an excellent burger for 14 euros and an Argentine pulled meat sandwich for 12 euros. You can pay by card or wristband.

Bars are scattered all over the fest. Prices are, of course, steep: 5 euros for 0.33 beer, 10 euros for a cocktail, and €4 for a shot.

The festival had 7 dance floors with various music genres. The main arena featured performances by popular DJs and a pyrotechnic show. The performances by ATB, Hardwell, Angerfist, Paul Elstak, Guns for Hire, and Fatima Hajji stood out. The atmosphere at the festival was friendly and positive, with no junkies or drunks in sight.

If you want to party at a club festival but don’t want to go to the Netherlands – Medusa Festival is a great option. It’s fantastic that the fest takes place right in the city – you can step out, dine at a restaurant or shop at a supermarket. Meracadona is very close by.

Life hack: if you don’t want to camp, rent an apartment in Valencia near the station. You can get to the event in an hour by train, and then calmly return home – the first trains run just when the festival ends at 6 am.

Ask questions in the comments – I’ll be happy to answer!
