Need to find an online store that automatically recalculates VAT (IVA). For example, when I get to the payment stage on Amazon or Aliexpress, and enter my Canary Islands address, the price gets adjusted. The most interesting thing is that there’s no tax to pay on purchases under €150.
Recently, I ordered a printer. The cost on the site was €180, but I paid €148.75. I managed to stay within the €150 limit. Sometimes shippers fill out invoices incorrectly, resulting in a request from customs. In that case, you need to email screenshots of the invoice with the price, a payment receipt from the bank, fill out a form, and attach your residency card. The next day, the item is delivered to your home. There’s nothing extra to pay.
If the item costs more than €150, the discount is a bit less. In this case, there are several options to pay the duty:
- Payment upon delivery to the postman or at the post office or through the delivery service (they charge about €20-30 extra for customs broker services)
- Order on Amazon. They handle it all, and you pay IVA at the moment of order. Sometimes you have to pay an extra €6 for premium delivery.
I just order expensive goods on Amazon. So, if you have an NIE, a Spanish phone number, and you’re going to stay in Tenerife, feel free to order a new iPhone or MacBook with a good discount of around 12%. Order it to the post office and then pick it up there.
